In late 2019, hundreds of users of electronic products that aerosolize a liquid for inhalation were hospitalized with a variety of respiratory and gastrointestinal symptoms. While some investigations have attributed the disease to the presence of vitamin E acetate in liquids that also contained tetrahydrocannabinol, some evidence suggests that chronic inhalation of two common solvents used in electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS), propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG), can interfere with the lipid components of pulmonary surfactant and cause or exacerbate pulmonary injury.
Introduction: E-cigarettes may have the potential to be an effective cessation aid for some cigarette smokers. However, the extent to which smokers' experiences using e-cigarettes (vaping) to quit smoking impact their cessation outcomes is unclear.
Although preliminary, our data showed that exposure to e-cig aerosols induced a higher score of lung injury than did control air or TS exposure. Our results indicate that the B6C3F1 mouse model may be suitable for an in-depth examination of the impact of e-cig on lung injury associated with oxidative stress and inflammation and this study adds to the growing evidence that the use of e-cig can lead to lung damage.

Youth EC use is associated with greater mental health problems (compared with nonuse) across several domains, particularly among adolescents. Because many existing studies are cross-sectional, directionality remains uncertain. Well-designed longitudinal studies to investigate long-term mental health sequelae of EC use remain needed.
