e-Cigarette Tobacco Flavors, Public Health, and Toxicity: Narrative Review

Background: Recently, the US Food and Drug Administration implemented enforcement priorities against all flavored, cartridge-based e-cigarettes other than menthol and tobacco flavors. This ban undermined the products' appeal to vapers, so e-cigarette manufacturers added flavorants of other attractive flavors into tobacco-flavored e-cigarettes and reestablished appeal.

Efficient matrix profile computation with Euclidean distance using Eigen transformation: Performance evaluation based on beat-to-beat interval (BBI) data

The matrix profile serves as a fundamental tool to provide insights into similar patterns within time series. Existing matrix profile algorithms have been primarily developed for the normalized Euclidean distance, which may not be a proper distance measure in many settings.

[What does Harm Reduction in Tobacco Use means to Public Health]

Harm reduction is a classic Public Health concept to refer to the reduction of the negative effect of drug use/abuse with a focus on justice and human rights, but the tobacco industry has been perverting this concept for years and using it as a tool for its own marketing.

Susceptibility to Electronic Cigarette and Consumption Patterns in Adolescents

The use of electronic cigarettes (ECs) is a major problem globally. Susceptibility and curiosity are important factors that develop prior to the onset of substance use, such as ECs, and are therefore considered as predictors. Both factors are used to obtain an extended index of susceptibility (ESIe-c), which allows the identification of adolescents who are at risk of starting to use these devices.

Impact of switching from cigarette smoking to tobacco heating system use on biomarkers of potential harm in a randomized trial

Background: Smoking cessation reduces the risk of developing smoking-related diseases. Although smoking prevalence has declined, many continue smoking cigarettes. Switching completely to smoke-free alternatives like the Tobacco Heating System (THS) 2.2-a heated tobacco product for which there is evidence demonstrating significantly reduced formation and exposure to harmful chemicals compared to cigarettes-has the potential to reduce the harm caused by continuing to smoke cigarettes.

Nicotine Impairs Smooth Muscle cAMP Signaling and Vascular Reactivity

Objective: This study aimed to determine nicotine's impact on receptor-mediated cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) synthesis in vascular smooth muscle (VSM). We hypothesize that nicotine impairs beta adrenergic-mediated cAMP signaling in VSM, leading to altered vascular reactivity.
