Epidemiological studies and clinical observations suggest that nicotine, a major contributor of the global burden of disease, acts in a partially sex specific manner. Still, preclinical research has primarily been conducted in males. More research is thus required to define the effects displayed by nicotine on the female brain.

Comparison impact of cigarettes and e-cigs as lung cancer risk inductor: a narrative review

Smoking cigarettes contributes to lung cancer progression and the development of other respiratory diseases. E-cigs are increasingly being offered to mitigate the harmful effects of traditional cigarettes and eventually for smoke cessation. Because e-cigs do not burn tobacco, it stands to reason that vaping e-liquid is less harmful than inhaling cigarette smoke.

Smoking reduction using electronic nicotine delivery systems in combination with nicotine skin patches

Electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) are used by smokers seeking to reduce combustible cigarette (CC) use, but the role of nicotine replacement vs. behavioral and sensory factors is still poorly understood. We hypothesized that providing nicotine from ENDS in addition to nicotine skin patches would promote smoking reduction relative to non-nicotine control ENDS.
