Pharmacokinetic Analysis of Nicotine and Its Metabolites (Cotinine and trans-3'-Hydroxycotinine) in Male Sprague-Dawley Rats Following Nose-Only Inhalation, Oral Gavage, and Intravenous Infusion of Nicotine

Nicotine is an alkaloid found in tobacco. Human exposure to nicotine primarily occurs through the use of tobacco products. To date, limited nicotine pharmacokinetic data in animals have been reported. This study exposed male Sprague-Dawley rats to vehicle (and/or air) or four doses of nicotine via nose-only inhalation (INH), oral gavage (PO), and intravenous (IV) infusion.

Development of a simple and reproducible HPTLC method on protective effect induced by bark of Acacia nilotica on poisoning caused by use of nicotine containing tobacco products

Tobacco (Nicotiana tobacum) and tobacco products are the most critical public health challenges today across the globe. Nicotine is the main chemical composition of tobacco and is associated with withdrawal syndrome. A laboratory animal is commonly employed as a model to investigate nicotine toxicity, drug dependence, reinforcing effects, and the protective effects of samples against nicotine-induced toxicity.

Cost-effectiveness analysis of e-cigarettes compared to nicotine replacement therapy for smoking cessation among Medicaid users in California

Introduction: Smoking is the leading preventable cause of death and disability in the United States (US). A 2019 randomized controlled trial found e-cigarettes are more effective than nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) in achieving abstinence when both are combined with behavioral counselling. Few cost-effectiveness studies have been performed regarding e-cigarettes as an adjunct to cessation efforts, and none in a US context. This study evaluated the cost-effectiveness of e-cigarettes compared to NRT, both with counselling, as cessation aids for Medicaid smokers in California.
